Feeding Your Maine Coon

Maine Coons are large, muscular cats that require a high-protein diet to support their impressive physique. Look for foods where a named meat (chicken, salmon, beef) is the first ingredient.

Kittens should eat 3–4 times per day until 6 months, then transition to 2–3 meals. Adults do well on twice-daily feeding. Always provide fresh water — Maine Coons are known to prefer running water, so a pet fountain is an excellent investment.

Avoid grain-heavy kibble as the primary diet. Maine Coons thrive on high-quality wet food supplemented with premium dry kibble. Raw diets can be an excellent option when done properly with veterinary guidance.
